Self-Imposed KFT Moratorium, Mission Chinese Food, and Pan’s Labyrinth Creepy Climbing Hands

Tuesday, 2/17

Started off this short week with a lovely chat with Ariel at NYU’s Kung Fu Tea! It’s always lovely catching up with her, but while I was drinking it, Amyma texted me about the very same drink I was drinking at the moment, knowing that yesterday she had just given me the leftover of her own Kung Fu Golden Oolong milk tea, and then saw me order another one as takeout to bring to Dean/drink 60% of myself, knowing that the LAST time I saw her when Julie was in town, I showed up from “dinner” having another one on me, and I turned to my metaphorical self and thought, “Jenny, maybe you have a problem….” and SO, after this 49th day of the year, I decided to not drink any more bubble tea. Until April. And no more bubble tea besides Kung Fu foreva, since I don’t really enjoy other types and I’ve had enough in my lifetime anyway, hahahaha.

Happy new year! It was also Charley’s birthday so we went to try Mission Chinese Food in LES. I had no idea it was such a hip and trendy place; I thought it was just good ol’ Chinese food with a more mainstream appeal (like Han Dynasty). Everything was very flavorful (maybe a little too much) and went really heavy on the salt, cumin, peppercorns, and possibly BBQ sauce (super traditional here).

Outside in LES, I was very pleased to stumble upon these two GIGANTIC snowmen (now ice men) piled vertically. All the sidewalk snow should be made into this. I guess it was the work of some bored LES kids, but it was so whimsically cheerful that it made walking through horizontally pelting snowfall worth it. I wish 23rd street was lined with snowmen.

Chach evaluates the Chongqing chicken wings. These were REALLY nicely flavored by the way, but so hot I couldn’t really handle it. It burned my tongue and influenced my flavor for the rest of the meal.

I randomly felt really sick towards the end of work so I went back and immediately laid down to take a nap. Is it caffeine? Lack of sleep? Lack of lying horizontally? I’m not sure what it is, but I’m not digging this constant feeling crappy situation. When I woke up from a semi-nap an hour later, though, I felt good enough to go climb with Dean and Jing again. My hands are in so much pain afterwards (I was on the “painful hands” cycle of climbing pain), but at least I’m building calluses. D & J are really into it right now so I tag along because I have the membership, but I don’t have as much endurance and every time I go, I rotate in a 3-4 time cycle where at first, my forearms seize up, then my hands hurt, and finally I’m limited by my strength only. My fourth or so time is usually a GREAT climb, though. But then if I rest too long before going again, I have to go through the forearms-hands-strength cycle.

Sorry for this very Pan’s Labyrinth photo. At least I’m smiling.
