Ting-ting and Dean wanted to do a Murray Hill dinner series, and so we all piled into Pio Pio on Friday evening (2/6). Pio Pio’s green sauce is like crack; what the heck is in that? But other than that, while I appreciate the grilled chicken, I’m not a fan of the other various forms of fried food – seems a little monotonous. I also sat next to someone I thought looked familiar for the longest time, before we both excitedly realized that we were in the same sorority in college, ha.
I met up with KDPhis for karaoke after!
Saturday (2/7) was a gloomy, snowy/rainy day, where unfortunately all of the trains seemed to be down and I walked 10 miles over the course of the day. I went to a Timbaland dance class in the morning, which I thought would be choreo but ended up as an aggressive zumba-like class. I felt super tired and sore and out of shape – I’m no good at exercising in the mornings.
Charley sent me these presets from Presetr on Friday, and they hold up really well to street photography, especially in the winter.
Later in the evening, I went to Broadway again to watch 50 Shades, the Musical. I wasn’t expecting much besides that it’d be a funny parody, but it was UPROARIOUSLY funny and left me in stitches. Maybe the most enjoyable play I’ve seen so far. You can’t go wrong with a parody musical about a terrible book about BDSM.
Saturday was pretty busy in general – I had lunch with Dillon earlier, also caught up with Jangu (including Steven Chen, Hallene, Veevee, Susan, etc) for dinner, and then went to the UES to catch Julie, who was in town on a whim.
On Sunday (2/8), I spent the morning mostly doing work and (gloriously) watching TV at home. I really missed it. In the afternoon, I went to Brooklyn Zoo for a very unsatisfying workout. I was mostly late and missed class, and they didn’t do any tumbling anyway, so I just did some failed front flips but at least managed to sort of handstand into a backbend. No walkover yet; I think I need more back flexibility for that. I’m not sure I’d be very interested in going again unless we do a tumbling class, or Kelvin goes to keep me motivated.
Then we went to Ippodo tea. It’s one of the most esteemed places in the city for matcha, but I got a hoji-cha latte made for me that tasted like exactly the flavor profile I’m so obsessed with at kung fu tea – strong, smoky oolong tempered by a little milk. As I’ve learned from Ravit (Seattle project), matcha can get exorbitantly expensive the more high-class it is.
