Alright, I’ve been dry from Gilmore Girls for 24 hours, mostly unintentionally. Renuka was leaving for Boston tomorrow, so I spent the afternoon catching up with her and Chris in the only neighborhood coffee option Fioza (besides the Starbucks that some guy ran into while making off with several games from Game Stop a few months back), and later got pizza from Star Pizza with Kelle and Shubha for dinner. I’m mildly fascinated by the fact that to get just about anywhere in Houston, you need to take a 6-lane highway, whether it’s going out to a bar or grabbing pizza.
In the spare hours, I was able to very quickly arrange 86 clips from 2014 in my (hopefully annual tradition) yearly recap video, but I haven’t been able to load it yet. Vimeo has implemented a copyright match function as of about May 2014, and is using Audible Magic to flag unauthorized music use. Of course, I had chosen Wolfmother’s Vagabond and it got flagged… :( I’m trying to change the key in Audacity to see if it will pass, but if it doesn’t work, I have no clue how to upload it. I liked how my video turned out, though it wasn’t as novel and exciting as I felt for my 2013 review. Bon Iver’s Towers is much more effective at kicking me into nostalgia mode immediately, but maybe because a lot of my clips are from various travels, I have rehashed these views so many times that they seem like old news to me. I hope it’s a little interesting to watch as a first time through, at least.
There is a small organizational OCD twitch that has been nagging at me for a while: I have been meaning to color-edit and upload a lot of my photos onto Flickr for a long, long time. I finally got around to doing it now, but Flickr’s “upload” link is annoying to find on the homepage and I’m not a fan of the endless photostream main homepage. Or at least get some flexibility to change the layout. This kind of annoyance makes me want to go back to Tumblr for a photo blog, but I think I may start dumping albums onto Flickr and posting one-off “portfolio” photo pieces on Tumblr. Does that settle things? My obsessive need to organize and neatly package my photos online has led me to procrastinate on this for most of 2014, but I figure that a new year is as good a time as any to try to start again.
EDIT: The key change trick worked!
