I came to post a running list of the aphorisms that resonated with me, but the list stopped at “fake it till you make it” (and maybe some variation of “to get what you want, don’t try too hard”), but found a lot more I liked by far more intelligent people.
There is no reality except the one contained within us. That is why so many people live such an unreal life. They take the images outside of them for reality and never allow the world within to assert itself. – Hermann Hesse
We never live; we are always in the expectation of living. – Voltaire
The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for – Dostoyevsky
The gods help them that help themselves. – Aesop
Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realize they were big things. – Kurt Vonnegut
Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Do not imagine you can exorcize what oppresses you in life by giving vent to it in art. – Flaubert
Age either transfigures or petrifies. – Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach
It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
The meaning of life is that it stops. - Franz Kafka
I don’t often like to blankly “collect” quotes, but a lot of these ring very true to me as reassuring.
